A sweet testimonial from one of my favorite prego mamas! I am so thankful I was able to spend most of this past year documenting her pregnancy through maternity portraits. Looking forward to meeting her sweet baby girl in a few more short weeks!
"What a treat and blessing it has been getting to know Jennifer in this past year, such a warm and kind hearted person. I'm constantly impressed with her talent and work ethic. Her ability to make you feel comfortable in front of the camera makes the sessions a lot of fun, even for those who do not usually enjoy having their picture taken- like my dear husband, haha. Jennifer has kindly taken the time to shoot our maternity journal over these past few months and I can not boast enough over her unique portrait styles and professionalism, her turnover time for portraits has been the quickest I've experienced with any photographer to this day."
"If you want treasured memories, captured in timeless portraits, 'Shine with Jennifer Leigh' is your photographer all the way!"

This HAS to be one of my favorite gender reveal photo shoots yet! Pamela and Billy were so creative in their planning for this very special announcement. Before I get ahead of myself, I recently connected with Pamela as she is a local Chesapeake, Virginia blogger. You can find her blog at PB&J Stories. She also has an amazing Etsy shop, PB&J Creations, where she sells reclaimed wood signs, lyric signs and subway art.
Pamela really wanted a gender reveal that wasn't the typical pink or blue balloons. She came up with this amazing idea to use holi powder. Before the session, Pamela had me read the gender results. Billy and Pamela closed their eyes while I poured the colored holi powder in their hands. Their son, Jackson, kept saying, "I want blue, I want blue." Before he had the chance to say anything more, Pamela and Billy quickly blew the holi powder from their hands. When they opened their eyes, the answer was in pink.
It's a girl!
Congratulations, Pamela, Billy and Jackson!

Absolutely LOVED this cottage chic maternity session with Terri! We stepped away from the white backdrop this week and decided to be a bit more creative. I usually lean towards outdoor portrait sessions, but really felt a feminine, chic indoor pregnancy shoot would be a much more relaxed setting…especially in this late summer Virginia Beach heat!
I adore Terri's off-the-shoulder sweater and leg warmers! Makes me anxious for the fall. Speaking of fall, it's also Labor Day weekend!! So excited for a long weekend with friends and family. I hope everyone has a safe time this weekend enjoying the last bit of summer vacation. Stay cool!

The BIG week is finally here! Terri has heard every old wives' tale and prediction for the past 20 weeks and this week she finally has her answer. She is going to have a baby girl! With two little boys at home and a house full of skateboards, drum sets and Toy Story Paraphernalia, Terri needs a bit more "pink" in her life.
In preparation for this shoot, Terri stopped by the store to pick out a few girl's clothes before heading over to my "studio". It wasn't long before I had a phone call from Terri explaining how she lost track of time looking through all the pretty girly things at Target. I am so happy for her and I can't wait to see how fashionable her little girl is going to be!
Week 19-20 Maternity Series: Gender Reveal
Brock and Carolyn are dear friends and are expecting a little boy this September. My husband has known Brock and Carolyn for years as they shared a good part of their single, adult lives together. My husband witnessed Brock and Carolyn's wedding at Founders Inn & Spa at Regent University and a few years later, Brock officiated our wedding in the Outer Banks. Brock and Carolyn were some of the first friends I met when visiting Virginia Beach. Unfortunately, I did not have the opportunity of living close to them as they were on their way to Denver, Colorado to start Redemption Church. With each visit, these friends become more dear to me. As the arrival of their first child, J {initial only as the name will be kept secret until September}, is fast approaching, I was thrilled to capture Carolyn's maternity portraits while they were here visiting.
With the heat of summer at its peak here in Virginia Beach, we decided an evening portrait shoot at the park would be best. We met at sunset at Mount Trashmore and were pleased to see the clouds roll in. Yes, the name of this park does mean what you think it does… Mount Trashmore Park is a 165 acre park with two man-made mountains created by compacting solid waste and clean soil. It is a beautiful location to bike, run or even roll down the hill! We had the best of intentions to get a few minutes of kite flying in before dark, but it was just too hot out there! We finished the night off with a visit to Confetti Caffe & Gelato at the Virginia Beach Town Center.
Congratulations, Brock and Carolyn. I can't wait to visit Denver and meet your little one in a few months!
It's Friday and I am also "stoked" for this coming weekend. My husband and I are taking a much needed vacation to the tropical paradise of Jamaica. He starts a new job when we return and this time away is just what we need to prepare for the upcoming changes in our lives. We fly out very early Saturday morning and after a short flight and a long bus trip, I will have my toes in the sand and the warm breeze in my face. Anyone ever visited Jamaica before? This our first time!
Before I dive into my last minute laundry, cleaning and packing, I want to share week 15 of Terri's Maternity Series with you. I think this lovely lady just keeps getting more beautiful as the weeks go by. Have a great weekend all!
